Grand Casino Mille Lacs And Grand Casino Hinckley Fight Hunger Locally

Casinos match Guest and Associate donations

ONAMIA, Minn. and HINCKLEY, MN – In 2009, there were more than 30,000 individual trips made to area food shelves surrounding the communities near Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley.

In response, Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley are joining forces to fight hunger in their surrounding communities through the “Add a Quarter to Your Order” promotion.

The “Add a Quarter to Your Order” promotion kicks off Monday, February 22. The concept is simple. When you dine at Grand Casino Mille Lacs or Grand Casino Hinckley from February 22 until March 28, you will have the option of adding a quarter to your food order. All proceeds will benefit Second Harvest North Central Food Bank, which serves area food shelves around Grand Casino Mille Lacs, and Family Pathways shelters in Hinckley and Sandstone, which serve the communities surrounding Grand Casino Hinckley.

At the end of the promotion, Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley will match the donations raised at each respective property up to $5,000.

According to Sue Estee, Executive Director for Second Harvest North Central Food Bank, the demand for food is higher than it has been in recent years.

“During these tough economic times, more and more people are turning to Second Harvest and our member agencies for hunger relief. We need the help now more than ever to feed struggling families, children and seniors. And thanks to Grand Casinos, and the help of its guests and associates, we’ll be able to provide more food and hope to those in need.”

And near the Hinckley casino, the situation is similar. “Our food shelves continue to deal with record numbers of people who are desperately seeking help to feed their families,” said Kathy Wills, manager of Family Pathways. “We would be overwhelmed without the generous support of companies like Grand Casinos.”

With this promotion, Grand Casinos, Second Harvest, and Family Pathways hope to generate attention to the issue of hunger, while inspiring others to donate to this important cause.

“Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley are in a position to help address hunger through our own giving, and also to raise awareness with thousands more people who have the capacity and compassion to give,” said Michael Garrow, Commissioner of Corporate Affairs for the Corporate Commission of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.

“’Add a Quarter to Your Order’ is all about making it easy for people to help our neighbors. Working together, we can make a significant difference one quarter at a time.”
